What Is OneBody?

OneBody is free, open-source, volunteer-built software that connects churchgoers on the web1.

Built by volunteers at a mid-sized, independent church in the heart of the United States, OneBody allows any church to add social network features to their website by using data stored in their existing church management software.

The revolutionary thing about OneBody is that it is designed to work with any church management software or database. See how it works.

Features

Web-Based
It runs in your web browser — no installation is necessary for users. Your church just needs to set it up on a server, either in-house or on a web host somewhere else.
Free & Open-Source
The software itself is completely free (not crippled, so-called "lite" software) and the code is available for anyone to change and improve.
Online Directory
OneBody ties in with your existing church membership database to provide appropriate information to members (and to others you give access).
Social Networking
Similar to MySpace or Facebook, the software allows churchgoers to connect online in ways that foster communication and growth.
Groups
People can join and create their own "groups" that allow people to connect in additional ways. The group can easily share email, prayer requests and more!
Blogs
Each user has their own blog for sharing information with others.
Favorites
Users can easily list their favorite books, music, movies, Bible verses, recipes, and more!
Security
Members are required to sign in with their very own password in order to view information about other people.
Privacy
The amount of information available to others is completely configurable per person. Any user can opt out at any time. Sensible defaults are selected for all users, showing just enough contact information to encourage communication.
Anti-Spam Protection
By default, no email addresses are made available online to other members. Instead, email communication is done through the site — never revealing the user's email address to the person contacting him/her.
Protection of Children
Parents must specifically grant consent to allow their children to be seen online and for them to be able to sign in and use the application. No one under 13 is visible by default.

Built By Volunteers

OneBody was built by volunteers for a real church.

Members of Cedar Ridge Christian Church have used OneBody every day for the past year, putting it through the ringer of tests that is real-world usage. In that time, we have improved the software to what it is today. And we continue to make it better based on feedback from people just like you!

  1. Actually, people — not software applications — do the connecting. More here.
